Automations and sequences
The two work as a pair. A sequence is a campaign made of steps, each with its own delay and email. An automation watches for something to happen and enrols the contact into that sequence, optionally doing other things along the way.
Find automations under Marketing, then Automations.
Creating one. Click New automation. You can start from a blueprint, a ready trigger and actions recipe you then tweak, or start from scratch. The blueprints are Welcome series, Abandoned checkout, Post-purchase upsell, Re-engagement, and Birthday or date. From scratch you supply a name, a trigger under "When this happens", and the sequence to send under "…send this sequence", either an existing one or a new one. Either way the automation starts paused.
The triggers offered are: Subscribes to emails, Unsubscribes from emails, Contact status changes, Submits a form, Tag is added, Product access is granted, Course is completed, Offer is purchased or granted, Order is paid, Subscription payment fails, Subscription is cancelled, Order is refunded, Opens a broadcast email, Clicks a broadcast email, Completes an email sequence, Completes a lesson, Passes a quiz, and Registers for an event.
Several can be narrowed with a follow-up question such as Which tag, Which product or Which offer. Under "Also run when (any of)" you can add extra triggers, and the automation runs whenever any one of them fires.
The actions available are: Add tag, Remove tag, Grant offer, Wait, Send email sequence, Send an offer email, Unsubscribe from a sequence, Update marketing status, plus two flow nodes, Only if… and Branch (Yes / No). Both flow nodes take a predicate: Has tag, Owns offer, Opened an email, Has made a purchase, Total spent, Is on a list, Is in a saved segment, Subscribed to marketing, or Is a member.
Going live. An automation will not activate until it has at least one trigger and at least one action, and activating it also switches its sequence on. Visual builder opens the same automation as a node graph if you prefer to see the shape.
Sequence steps. Open the sequence and use Add step. Each step takes Send on day, an optional At time, a Subject line, an internal title, and a Condition: Always send, Only if opened previous email, Only if clicked previous email, or Only if has tag. Day 0 is the moment a contact enters the sequence, so Day 3 at 09:00 means three days after entering. Drag steps to reorder.
Safety. Anyone who unsubscribes or bounces after enrolling stops receiving further steps. Each contact profile shows the runs they have been through and how many steps actually fired.
