Using the email builder

Updated August 17, 2026

Open any email and click Edit in builder. The editor fills the screen: a canvas in the middle, a panel on the left, and a toolbar across the top with Undo, Redo, device previews for Desktop, Tablet portrait and Phone portrait, plus Templates, Preview, Send test and Save email.

Two modes. Switch between Visual and Simple text at the top of the panel. Simple text is a single rich text area, and the note under it explains what happens: your text is placed in a clean email layout with your footer and unsubscribe link added automatically. Visual mode is the block builder described below.

Blocks. The left panel has two tabs, Blocks and Design. The block palette is grouped and searchable:

  • Basic: Text, Image, Button, Divider, Quote, Spacer.
  • Media: Logo, Video, Social links, Product card, Countdown, Announcement.
  • Layout: Columns, Image and text, Image and image, Text and text.
  • Advanced: Custom HTML.
  • Saved blocks, your own reusable sections.

Drag a block onto the email, or click it to add it to the end. Select a block on the canvas and its settings appear in the panel, including alignment, colours, corner radius, width, and separate desktop and mobile padding. Any block can be hidden on mobile.

Smart links. Images and buttons have a Link action rather than just a URL field. Choose No link, Web address, Go to a landing page, Go to a checkout, or Download a file, then pick the item. The correct address is filled in automatically when the email is sent, so it never goes stale.

Personalisation. The Personalize button inserts merge fields into the subject, the preheader and your text: First name, Last name, Full name, Name, Email address, Phone number, Mobile phone, Address, Address line 2, City, State, Country, Zip code and Business number. Empty fields fall back to a safe default rather than printing a raw tag.

Subject and preview text. Click the subject at the top to open a small modal holding Subject, Preheader, and a toggle to A/B test the subject line so half your audience gets version A and half gets version B.

Save and reuse. Select a block and choose Save section to keep it as a reusable snippet, or use Save current as template in the Templates gallery to keep the whole email. See Email templates and saved sections.

Check before sending. Preview opens the compiled email with sample values. Send test delivers it to any address you type, defaulting to your own.
