Coupons and discounts
Coupons are discount codes buyers type in at checkout. They work on one-time purchases.

Creating a code
Click New coupon and fill in:
- Code, letters, numbers, dashes and underscores, up to 40 characters. It is saved in capitals, so
summer20becomesSUMMER20. Each code has to be unique in your workspace. - Discount type, either Percent off (1 to 100) or Fixed amount. A fixed amount also needs a Currency.
- Applies to, either All products or one specific product of yours.
- Max redemptions, optional. Leave it blank for unlimited.
- Expires, optional. The date has to be in the future, and the code stays valid through the whole of that day.
- Active, on by default.
The list
Each row shows the Code, the Discount with the product it is scoped to, Used as a redeemed count against the maximum, the Expires date, and a Status pill you can click to switch a code on or off instantly. The row menu also gives you Edit, Activate or Deactivate, and Delete.
Deleting a code stops anyone using it. Past orders keep the discount they were given.
How buyers use them
On your checkout page a Have a code? link appears, but only while you have at least one active code. The buyer opens it, types the code and presses Apply. The total updates on the spot, or they get a short reason why the code was not accepted.
The rules
A code is rejected when it is inactive, expired, fully redeemed, scoped to a different product, or when its currency does not match the product's currency. Codes cannot be used on subscriptions, because a discounted recurring price would quietly discount every renewal forever.
A redemption is only counted once a payment actually completes, so abandoned checkouts never eat into your maximum.
Fully discounted orders. A 100% off code, or a discount that leaves an amount too small for the card networks to charge, produces a clean free order. Access is still granted, and no invoice is issued because no money moved.
To track them, the Free offers over time report counts zero-priced orders. See The report catalogue.
