Using media across the workspace

You almost never need to open the media library to use a file. Wherever a picture, video, audio file or document is needed, the same Choose media picker appears.

Using the picker. Click Select image, Choose image, Choose from library or the thumbnail itself, depending on the screen. The picker opens with:

• A Search media… box that searches your whole library by name, not just what is on screen.
• A grid of matching files, images as thumbnails, other kinds as a labelled icon.
• Load more at the bottom, so nothing is out of reach however many files you have.
• Upload media, which uploads straight from the picker and selects the result.
• Open media library, which opens the full library in a new tab.
• Remove current, to clear a field that already has a file.

The picker is filtered to the kind of file the field wants. If you try to upload the wrong kind it tells you "That file is a different media type. Pick a matching file."

Anything uploaded from a picker is saved to your library, so it is available everywhere afterwards and counts toward your storage.

Where the picker turns up

• Pages. Every image, video, gallery, carousel and slides widget in the builder, plus background images.
• Headers and footers. The header logo and the footer logo. See Headers and footers.
• Blog. A post's cover image and its social share image, and the blog's own social share image.
• Products. Product thumbnails, lesson videos and audio, downloadable files, podcast episodes and certificate artwork.
• Communities and the client dashboard. Cover and banner artwork.
• Contacts. Profile pictures.
• Branding. Your logo and favicon.
• Site details. The site-wide SEO and social share image.
• Email. Images in the email builder and campaign content.
• Invoice settings. The logo printed on invoices.

A note on file types. Because the same library serves all of these, a file uploaded for one purpose is instantly available for another. An image used as a product thumbnail is the same record you would pick for a page hero, which is why deleting it affects both. That is covered in Storage and deleting files.
